Hourglass Chair, Andrea Nicholas-Jones, is calling on the Chancellor to urgently clarify if the voluntary sector will be affected by reported proposals to impose employer National Insurance increases, ahead of tomorrow’s budget.

Hourglass, the only UK-wide charity working to end the abuse, harm, exploitation and neglect of older people has warned that any NI increase will severely impact it’s vital service provision at a time when there is significant uncertainty around future funding yet an increase in demand for services.

Warning of the potential impact of any increase to employer NI costs, Andrea Nicholas-Jones (Chair of Hourglass’ Board of Trustees) commented

“Hourglass is working with more older-victim survivors of abuse than at any point in our 30 year history. We have proven the need and demand for our services which save and change lives. The charity needs surety and the sector needs support”.

Richard Robinson, CEO of Hourglass added

“Charities like Hourglass work tirelessly to support government initiatives to end violence and abuse. It would be a devastating blow to Hourglass to see employer costs increase which will directly impact service provision to some of the most vulnerable older people in our society”.
